
The Bulldogs wasted no time in scoring, as a corner kick from Hel Dimantas Farias found its way to the right side of the box where Morgan Shaffer put the finishing touch on her fifth goal of the season. The rest of the the first half went scoreless, despite 10 attempts at Abbey Adkins.
It took the Lady Lions some time to begin playing comfortably, when in the 73rd minute, Shelby Murray sent a pass to Briley Collins who lofted a 30 yard chip shot into the net to tie up the match, which remained all square for the remaining 15 minutes of regulation.
The Lady Lions took the pitch in the first overtime with a renewed vigor, hoping that the golden goal would come from the foot of a Lady Lion. In the 102 minute, their wishes came true.
Briley Collins sent a long through-ball down the left touch-line, where Julie Bracknell picked it up close to the end-line, then crossing it back to the box where Whitney Newby half-volleyed off of her left foot past the diving CU keeper, giving the Lady Lions their first conference victory.
Both squads sent plenty of shots toward the net, with Cumberland (9-7, 0-6) outshooting the Lady Lions 17 to 10.
The Lady Lions (5-8-1, 1-5) end the regular season on a high note, and now prepare to travel to Lyon (Ark.) College to face the Scots in the Quarterfinals of the 2011 TranSouth Conference Championships on Nov 5 at 1 PM.
