The Lady Lions took the pitch in the first overtime with a renewed vigor, hoping that the golden goal would come from the foot of a Lady Lion. In the 102 minute, their wishes came true.
Briley Collins sent a long through-ball down the left touch-line, where Julie Bracknell picked it up close to the end-line, then crossing it back to the box where Whitney Newby half-volleyed off of her left foot past the diving CU keeper, giving the Lady Lions their first conference victory.
Both squads sent plenty of shots toward the net, with Cumberland (9-7, 0-6) outshooting the Lady Lions 17 to 10.
The Lady Lions (5-8-1, 1-5) end the regular season on a high note, and now prepare to travel to Lyon (Ark.) College to face the Scots in the Quarterfinals of the 2011 TranSouth Conference Championships on Nov 5 at 1 PM.
