Sports Information Director
Matt Barker enters his second year as Sports Information Director at FHU. Originally from Evansville, Ind., Barker received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Freed-Hardeman in 2006 and added a Master of Arts in Corporate Communications from Austin Peay State University in 2011. After graduating from Freed-Hardeman in 2006, Barker wrote for a weekly newspaper in White House, Tenn., covering high school athletics in the local area.

In his role as SID, Barker is in charge of all aspects of publicity for the FHU Athletic Department and its 13 collegiate sports, which includes writing press releases, game recaps and coordinating the submission of statistics to the American Midwest Conference (AMC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He also oversees all athletic department publications, maintains the athletic web site and social media platforms and helps coordinate staffing for game day operations for home athletic contests.

In addition to his responsibilities as a Sports Information Director, Barker also works for the Jackson (Tenn.) Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, as a Public Address Announcer during home games. He has been married to his wife, Lauren, since 2006. They have two children: Riley (7) and Holland (4).
